Light up our lives

At an event dubbed Call2Recycle, which invited Fashion Week participants to bring in old cell phones for, obviously, recycling, we found the answer to that age-old handbag nightmare - not being able to find anything inside. The New York Tote by Passchal, made of recycled truck and tractor innertubes trimmed in your choice of colorful leathers, comes with a tiny light that switches on when the bag is opened. Why didn't someone
think of that before? It's $175 at www.passchal.com.

SPEAKING UP

Amid the elegantly beaded gowns and the intricately tailored jackets, the lowly T-shirt made an appearance at some European collections. A few highlights:

Designer Vivienne Westwood took her bow in a shirt proclaiming, "I am not a terrorist. Please don't arrest me."

A little national pride at Moschino's Cheap and Chic show

A fringed Superwoman shirt showed up several times in Bernhard Willhelm's show.

Makeup of many colors

The multi-shade compact is all the rage this fall. One of our favorites is the Mosaic compact by Napolean Perdis. When applied, the five shades of highlighter, blush and bronzing powder deliver a subtle glow that lasts all day. It's $35 at Saks Fifth Avenue. Another stunning mix of shades comes in Chanel's Coromandel compact, with patterns based on Coco Chanel's famed Oriental screens. The limited-edition compact includes a deep red blush, a black eyeliner and a shimmering gold that can be mixed with either of the other shades. It's $55 at major department stores. Another product along these lines is Bobbi Brown's popular Shimmer Brick, $35, out for fall in a new apricot palette. - Barbara Schuler

FINDS

Footloose

Tupperware got a taste of the high life during Cynthia Rowley's spring fashion show. The manufacturer of the kitchen staple teamed up with the designer to produce shoes for the show - Rowley wanted the models to look like they were floating down the runway. There also were Tupperware headbands, which, according to a Rowley spokeswoman, will be sold along with the clothes, come spring. As for the shoes, at the moment, they're not being made - but stranger things have happened.

Fresh from the runway

A chunky gold heart pendant seen on the runway at British designer Luella Bartley's show during Fashion Week can be yours - if you hurry. Created by Links of London designer Annoushka Ducas, the chain-link necklace with large heart pendant engraved "Luella" was made in a limited edition of 1,000. It's available at the Links of London store in Manhattan for $450.
